Parigi si tinge di rosa con il ristorante bistrot Germain, aperto da più di un anno nei pressi di rue de Buci, nel sesto arrondissement. Non solo perché la designer che ne ha curato l’interior è una donna, ovvero l’iraniana di nascita e francese di adozione India Mahdavi, ma soprattutto perché a primeggiare al centro dell’ambiente è Sophie, una scultura femminile dalle forme sfaccettate e spigolose di color giallo, alta 5 metri, pettinata con una coda di cavallo e vestita con un lungo impermeabile e vertiginosi tacchi a spillo.
Opera del noto artista francese Xavier Veilhan, Sophie, oltre a essere spettacolare catalizzatore d’attenzione, rappresenta per il Germain un trait d’union tra i due livelli che lo compongono: con i piedi poggiati al piano terra dove si trovano l’area ristorante e il caffè, il suo “corpo” attraversa la struttura raggiungendo l’area lounge Vip del primo piano dove spunta il viso, come fosse una creatura preesistente al ristorante stesso.
Tradizionale nel menu ma eccentrico nel layout, Germain è stato concepito da India Mahdavi e dal committente – l’imprenditore francese del settore risto-business Thierry Costes – come un luogo alternativo per il XXI secolo, ispirato a un ritorno agli anni ’70 attraverso l’impiego di pattern, texture e cromie dal gusto retro. Paris goes pink with the restaurant Bistrot Germain which was opened over a year ago not far from Rue de Buci, in the sixth arrondissement. And not only because the interior designer is a woman, that is the Iran-born and French-adopted India Mahdavi, but above all because mid in the room it’s Sophie that features heavily, a female, multifaceted and sharp-shaped sculpture in the colour yellow, five meters high, her hair cropped in a horse-tail, wearing a long raincoat and extremely high-heeled shoes. A work by the renowned French artist Xavier Veilhan, Sophie, besides exercising a strong appeal to the public, also represents a trait d’union of the two levels making up the Germain: her feet rest on the ground floor where the restaurant area and the café are located, while her body crosses the area vertically, thus reaching as far as the lounge vip area on the first floor where her face gets visible, as if she were a creature exisiting even prior to the venue itself.
Traditional in the menu, eye-catching in the layout though, Germain was devised by India Mahdavi and the client – the French entrepreneur in the restaurant business Thierry Costes – as an alternative place for the XXI century, drawing inspiration from the 70’s through the use of patterns, textures and a colour palette in a remarkably retro style.
